Garage Sale Stories!!! YES!

Only had a list of SIX to go to - but I was one happy girl to see that the yard sales are starting up again around here!
I took the two little ones with me and we set out to see what we could find.
Found 3 Guitar Hero guitars, they were about $2 and I can get about $18-25 for each of them.  My only problem right now is finding a box to ship them in before I list them.
These are a pain to ship because of the weird size.  Any tips?
I plan on keeping these for me - going to spray paint them but I'm not sure what color yet?  They were $5
Same sale, got this galvanized candle holder for $5.
Some clothes!  I'm saving the kids clothes for the fall consignment sale and the rest I'm already starting to list.  Chico's, Lucky jeans, etc.  I paid $8 for this pile...here they are ready to buy:
This is SO pretty in person, I just love the ruffle front!
Hard Rock Cafe Copenhagen shirt, Large, it looks like it was never even worn!
Not my best pictures, I was listing last night so the light was eh.

It was really windy and my kids were freezing but we hit the last two and found this Cuisinart food processor for $2!  The motor works but the top bowl is cracked.  I've decided to piece it out and sell it that way, hoping to get about $35 out of it when all is said and done.  We'll see.
I saved the best for last!  I saw this and was walking over when another woman went over and started digging through.  BLERG!!  After a few minutes (and me freezing) I asked her if she was getting it.  She said yes, she thought her little girl would have fun playing with it.
NOOOOOO!!

I was sure she had no idea that this was a set of Candlewick Imperial Glass!  I only know this because when my grandmother died, she left her set to me and I am constantly trying to look for pieces to add to my set.
 So, I fought for it.
I know this is wrong but I went up to the lady in the garage and asked her about it.  She said her aunt gave it to her and she never used it.  I explained that I had the set and would love to have more pieces, how much was she wanting for it?  She said $5.

I felt sick.

I told her it was worth a lot more than that, and I would be willing to pay more.
So the other lady walks up and she asks how much for the set and the hostess tells her...
FIFTY DOLLARS!

The other woman declines, pays for her silk plant and leaves.  Hostess then turns to me and says, "I really wanted you to have it since you have more pieces, could you do $15?"

HAPPY DANCE!
I was SO excited!  I felt like a bit of a cheater so I hope karma doesn't come back and bite me in the butt.
All is fair in love and at yard sales, right?
Someone justify this for me please!  :)
I added 8 new salad plates, 8 dinner plates, a large serving bowl (which I did not have) and some other small odds and ends to the set.  I can't wait to use them for Easter dinner!
Have the sales started up where you live?  Or are you one of the lucky ones that get them year round?

  1. It's not cheating if it's the truth! She choose to do what she wanted to do! You are free and clear!

  2. I soooo miss talking to you about our finds. I went out saturday but only made it to 3 sales. I was freezing. Found a couple things though. You always crack me up. I think you may have talked me into trying the consignment thing. I guess I better get shopping. See you tonight.

  3. Garage sales are starting to pop up here and there. There is a children's consignment sale next weekend that I'm excited about, too. I'm hoping to build up a nice inventory, so that I don't have to pay our thrift store prices during the winter months, which seem to be rising higher and higher. Btw, great finds! :)
